Evaluations: Discovering What Your Child Needs

Individualized, comprehensive evaluations at Cornerstone Assessment explore thinking skills, academic skills such as reading and math, attentional skills, social and emotional functioning, and behavioral functioning. Dr. Lusby will clearly explain the factors that limit success, identify strengths, and provide clear recommendations for educators, parents, and students. If desired, Dr. Lusby will accompany you to a meeting at the school to participate in developing an effective education plan.

Neuropsychological Evaluation

A neuropsychological evaluation is a comprehensive assessment of cognitive functions such as learning and memory or problem-solving. Standard testing procedures are used to assess the various abilities that relate to learning and using knowledge and skills. The following areas are often included:

  • Intelligence/Cognitive Skills
  • Academic Achievement
  • Concentration
  • Learning and Memory
  • Language Skills
  • Perceptual/Spatial Skills
  • Motor Skills
  • Problem Solving and Critical Thinking
  • Planning, Organization, and Judgment

Psychological Evaluation

This evaluation measures a child’s social and emotional functioning in order to conceptualize and accurately diagnose any psychological difficulties.

Attentional Evaluation

This evaluation is typically conducted in conjunction with a neuropsychological evaluation. It is an objective method for diagnosing Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). This evaluation incorporates observation of the student as well as standardized tests that measure attention and related cognitive skills. A precise and ethical diagnosis of ADHD depends on thorough integration of testing results with academic, behavioral, and developmental histories taken from parents, teachers, and medical records.

Functional Behavioral Assessment

Research shows that behavioral difficulties affect a child’s classroom learning and the learning of those around him or her. A functional behavioral assessment describes the challenging behaviors in specific, measurable terms and identifies the factors that reinforce the behaviors. It incorporates observation of the student at school, interviews with parents and school staff, questionnaires, and tracking of the behaviors over time.

Gifted and Talented Evaluation

This evaluation provides formal documentation of a child’s exceptional thinking skills, problem-solving, creativity, and academic achievement levels. I.Q. scores will be provided as part of the results.
